Gavin’s art career started many years back with an Art Foundation course at Percival Whitley College, Halifax, he then went on to a 3-year diploma in creative photography at Trent Polytechnic. His passion for art continued during his 35 years as a refuse collector but wasn’t until he retired that he started painting fulltime, both landscape & portrait.Gavin works from photographs he takes of subjects he sees around & about that piques his interest. He’ll use his camera to capture a detailed image which he views on his phone so he can zoom in on the tiniest details as he paints. He always works with a full palette of colours, and while he can be very obsessive with recreating the detail in the painting, he’s happy to work with the unnatural colours digital detail can pull up.His style is very accurate & fairly tight. Obsessive with the level of detail, he uses the finest of brushes even on large canvases & to create the textures he soon wears his brushes out.Gavin says “Every new painting has its individual challenges & it’s all a learning process, we will see how things develop in the future?”
